Review: Rocking up once more to his regular spot chez Cecille, Nick Curly is plying his trade in stripped-down, functional rhythms with typical care and precision on 'A Certain Someone'. The beat takes the lead here, with only some quirky synth noodles darting around in the background. The breakdowns are heralded by a stiff vocal, which makes for quite a strange juxtaposition, but the groove prevails. 'Outside In' is more linear still, yet with playful drums creating a more instinctive kind of funk for a very workable DJ tool that'll save you any unwelcome surprises in the mix. Review: Straddling the world of tribal house and European minimalism is Nick Curly. Although his catalogue shows that his sound usually inhabits the same techy terrain as Johnny D and Nick Okpara, the title track has more than its fair share of minimal signatures. Spluttering, hiccupping vocals and whooshing effects unfold over tough drums and the kind of relentless, jacking rhythms one would associate with Detroit producers like Dan Bell or even Claude Young.

On 'Headcount', Curly returns to what he knows best. Over dense, doubled up drums, he delivers insistent claps and filters that churn and surge without a single pause. Review: Mannheim's finest Nick Curly returns for some more of his signature deep percussive tech house grooves. On the pre peak time tool 'Reverie', Curly infuses his usual syncopated wooden percussion workouts with a grooving bassline, complete with laser zaps and various other types of tripped out atmospherics.
On the flip 'All People' is definitely for the peak time. A furious beat is supported by relentlessly dark synth stabs on this infectious and sweaty groove. Absolutely made to play on the island or any massive beach party for that matter. Bring on the summer already!
